The Academy for College Admission Counseling!

September 20, 2022

We hope that your school year is off to a good start.

After much thought and discussion, we have decided to permanently close The Academy.  Trying to create and sustain an online program has been an incredible challenged and so we have decided to cease operations.

Over the past 22 years, we have enjoyed incredible success. We have had over 2,200 participants attend our workshops, which transfers into literally thousands of families better served because of The Academy.  I am so very proud of our accomplishments.  When we welcomed our first class in 2000, we hoped to share college counseling theory and practice with our colleagues.  And we have done so each and every year.

First and foremost, I must publicly thank all the incredible faculty who have worked with me to shape The Academy’s curriculum, focus, and energy. Because of their experience, commitment, persistence, insight, and plain old-fashioned hard work, the faculty developed and delivered premier college counseling programs for over two decades.

And we would have disappeared in 2003 had Elmhurst University not offered us shelter.  Their incredible enthusiasm and support have been the underpinning of our success.  To see a university reach out to support secondary counselors is really what this profession is all about.

To all of you who have taken a class or seminar with us, thank you from the bottom of my heart.  I have made so many friends over the years through The Academy.  Your positive response to our efforts buoyed us in so many ways.  Interacting with you has been a blessing.

So now I am now really retiring!  Of all the many professional experiences in my life – and there are so many – none has meant more to me than The Academy. It was simultaneously the hardest and the best work I have ever done.  When I started in this profession, I was blessed to have mentors who guided my path; all I wanted to do was to pay it forward to the next generation of college counselors.  Thank you for allowing me to do so for over 20 years.

Continued success to all of you as you dedicate yourselves to serving your students.  Ours is a noble profession.  Soldier on.
